History
We have a great history. Chapmans was established in 1847 by Hedley Chapman. The first shop and factory were based in North Shields. The business flourished and, by 1866, was producing high-quality furniture at its own steam cabinet works.
One hundred and fifty years and five generations later, Chapmans is still a family run business. The current Managing Director is John Chapman, great great grandson of the founder. John's father, Robert Chapman is Chairman of the company.
The Firm are proud of its United Kingdom registered Siesta Trade Mark which was first registered in 1920. Each piece of furniture is hand tagged with our own Siesta label as a mark to and in recognition of its quality and its design.
You can find out more about the history of Chapmans in a special commemorative book ‘A View From The Chair’ by Robert H. Chapman. The book was published in 1997 to celebrate our one hundred and fiftieth anniversary. Signed copies are available for £11.00 each (inc. U.K post and packing).
